James Bowie was an American pioneer, soldier, smuggler, slave trader, and land speculator. He also fought at the battle of Alamo, but spent most of his time as a land speculator. James Bowie is famous for the Bowie Knife, it was called that when he got into a fight with a sheriff in which Bowie was shot and stabbed but managed to kill the sheriff with a large knife now known as the Bowie Knife.
